President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Romuald Wadagni following his reported landslide victory in the presidential election in Benin Republic, signaling a new chapter in the country’s leadership.
In a statement released by the Presidency, Tinubu commended Wadagni on what he described as a decisive mandate from the people, noting that the outcome reflects public confidence in his vision and leadership capacity. The Nigerian leader also praised the peaceful conduct of the electoral process, highlighting it as a positive sign for democratic consolidation in the West African sub-region.
Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Benin Republic, emphasizing shared economic, cultural, and security interests between both nations. He expressed optimism that under Wadagni’s leadership, cooperation in key areas such as trade facilitation, border management, and regional security would be further enhanced.
The President also underscored the importance of collaboration within regional bodies like the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), stressing that unity among member states remains crucial in addressing common challenges, including terrorism, political instability, and economic development.
Observers say Wadagni’s emergence could bring renewed momentum to economic reforms and regional partnerships, given his background in finance and governance. His administration is expected to focus on fiscal stability, investment growth, and strengthening institutional frameworks in Benin Republic.
Tinubu concluded by wishing the president-elect success in his forthcoming tenure and assured him of Nigeria’s support as he prepares to assume office.
