The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kebbi State chapter, has honoured the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mikailu Sami Gomo III, with the Most Loved Emir Award, citing his fairness, justice, and inclusive leadership across the Zuru Emirate.
The award was presented during a well-attended Christmas congregation at the United Missionary Catholic Association in Zuru on Thursday, where CAN praised the Emir’s open-door policy, compassion, and commitment to peaceful coexistence among the emirate’s diverse ethnic and religious communities.
Presenting the award, the CAN Chairman in Kebbi State and Anglican Bishop of Zuru Diocese, Dr Ayuba Y. Kanta Yaji, said the honour was in recognition of the Emir’s deep connection with his people and his tireless efforts at promoting unity, peace, cultural preservation, and community development without discrimination.
“This award acknowledges Your Highness’s leadership style, which has strengthened harmony and mutual respect across the Zuru Emirate,” Yaji said.
In his response, the Emir expressed gratitude to CAN and reaffirmed his commitment to protecting all residents of the emirate, stressing that people of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds are bona fide indigenes of Zuru.
He called for continued prayers for peace, unity, and an end to armed banditry in Kebbi State and across Nigeria, noting that security remained a collective responsibility.
The Emir also commended Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, describing him as a detribalised and compassionate leader. He specifically lauded the ongoing reconstruction of the Koko–Zuru Federal Road, saying the project would boost economic activities and improve lives in the area.
Congratulating Christians on the Christmas celebration, the monarch prayed for peace, prosperity, and renewed hope in the New Year.
The event drew prominent Christian leaders and dignitaries, including a former Chief of Army Staff and Sarkin Yakin Zuru, Lieutenant General Isya Rizi Bamaiyi (retd), underscoring the growing spirit of interfaith cooperation in the state.
The recognition, coming during the Christmas season, was widely seen as a strong message of unity and religious tolerance in Kebbi State.
