The Nigerian Army has confirmed the successful rescue of nine abducted victims, including seven children, who were kidnapped during an attack on an orphanage in Kogi State last month.
According to military authorities, troops carrying out coordinated clearance operations alongside local security agencies tracked the kidnappers to a forest hideout after weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance. The victims were rescued during a tactical operation that reportedly forced the abductors to flee under pressure from advancing troops.
The children and two adult caregivers were said to be in stable condition after undergoing medical checks and psychological assessment following their rescue. Security officials added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects connected to the abduction.
The incident had sparked widespread concern across Kogi communities after armed men stormed the orphanage at night and whisked away several children and staff members. Authorities say intensified military presence and joint security patrols have since been deployed around vulnerable institutions in the state to prevent similar attacks.
Residents and community leaders have praised the rescue operation, while calling for stronger protection for schools, orphanages, and other humanitarian facilities across the region.
