President Bola Tinubu has postponed his scheduled official visit to Ogun State in response to a renewed outbreak of violence in Jos, signaling heightened federal concern over the deteriorating security situation in the region.
The decision follows reports of a Sunday night attack in the Anguwan Rukuba area of Jos, where unidentified assailants reportedly carried out coordinated acts of violence, leading to casualties and heightened tension within affected communities. While full details of the incident are still being verified by authorities, the development has raised fresh concerns about recurring unrest in Plateau State, an area historically prone to communal clashes.
In response, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical teams and mobile police units to the state. The reinforcement is aimed at restoring calm, preventing further escalation, and supporting existing security formations already on ground.
Security agencies have since intensified patrols and surveillance operations across key flashpoints in Jos and surrounding areas. Authorities say the deployments will also focus on intelligence gathering, rapid response to threats, and ensuring the protection of lives and property.
Government officials have emphasized that the President’s decision to postpone his Ogun engagement underscores the administration’s priority on national security and stability. Residents in Plateau State have been urged to remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and avoid actions that could inflame tensions as efforts continue to restore order.
