Edo Queens, Enabulele Celebrate NWFL Premiership Victory
The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for Owen Federal Constituency, Hon. Andrew Ijegbai, has congratulated Edo Queens Football Club on their emergence as champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
Ijegbai described the victory as well deserved, noting that the team’s success was a product of hard work, commitment, discipline, and determination. He added that the achievement represents another remarkable milestone following the club’s historic first league title win in 2024.
Edo Queens secured the 2026 NWFL Premiership title on Sunday after playing out a goalless draw against defending champions Bayelsa Queens in the decisive final fixture of the Super Six competition.
The Benin-based side had earlier recorded impressive victories over FC Robo Queens, Abia Angels, and Rivers Angels with 4-1, 6-2, and 2-1 wins respectively, before sealing the championship with 10 points and a superior goal difference. Their only setback in the competition was a 1-0 loss to Nasarawa Amazons in the opening match.
In his congratulatory message, Ijegbai praised the management team led by the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, the coaching crew, and players for their outstanding contributions to the historic feat.
He said: “It is with immense joy and pride that I extend my warmest congratulations to Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele’s incredible management team, dedicated coaching staff, and the phenomenal players of Edo Queens Football Club on their historic victory in securing the Nigeria Women Premier Football League title.
“This spectacular achievement is not just a win on the pitch; it is a testament to the hard work, resilience, and discipline that this team has displayed throughout the season and the Super Six tournament. You have proven that with dedication and teamwork, no goal is unattainable.”
Ijegbai further stated that Edo Queens’ triumph reflects the true spirit of the Edo people, defined by courage, excellence, and the determination to succeed against challenges.
“Your spectacular run and ultimate victory beautifully embody the true spirit of the Edo person—a spirit defined by bravery, excellence, and an indomitable will to succeed. You have brought glory to our great state and reminded the nation that Edo remains the cradle of sports in Nigeria,” he added.
The APC candidate also noted that the victory would inspire young athletes across Edo State and beyond, while urging the team to maintain the momentum as they prepare for future competitions and continental engagements.
He commended Hon. Enabulele and the Edo State Sports Commission for their commitment, resources, and support towards the success of Edo Queens, urging the commission to continue its efforts in sustaining the team’s growth and achievements.
