Flamingos
The Flamingos have secured their second victory at the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup after defeating Ghana’s Black Maidens 4-2 on Friday night.
The Nigerian side, coached by Akeem Busari, took control of the encounter in the first half, with Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and captain Chidi Harmony finding the back of the net to give the Flamingos a 2-0 lead at the break.
Nigeria were reduced to 10 players shortly before the hour mark after Elizabeth Adesuyi was shown a red card.
Ghana took advantage of the numerical advantage four minutes later, with Seidatu Wahab pulling one goal back for the Black Maidens.
However, the Flamingos responded strongly as Mary Dunstan capitalised on an error in the Ghanaian defence to restore Nigeria’s two-goal advantage.
Kaosarat Akanji then extended the lead by scoring Nigeria’s fourth goal three minutes before the end of regulation time.
Ghana managed to reduce the deficit once again when Gloria Ameaa scored in the 90th minute, but the Flamingos held on to claim a 4-2 victory.
The result gives Nigeria another important win in their campaign at the WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup as they continue their push for the title.
