Ghana has officially secured the hosting of the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, following a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The announcement was made by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in a statement shared on its X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday. According to the GFA, CAF confirmed the decision in a letter addressed to its General Secretary, Prosper Addo.

The association described the approval as a strong vote of confidence in Ghana’s ability to successfully organise a top-tier youth football tournament. It noted that CAF believes the country has the capacity to meet the high standards required for hosting such a prestigious continental event.

Ghana previously hosted the competition in 1999, a memorable edition in which the national U-20 team, the Black Satellites, clinched the title on home soil. The 2027 tournament will also coincide with Ghana’s 70th Independence anniversary, adding further significance to the event.

CAF is expected to collaborate closely with the GFA and a Local Organising Committee, which will be set up in due course. Preparations will focus on key areas such as infrastructure, logistics, security, and enhancing the overall fan experience, with the aim of delivering a world-class tournament.

Beyond the excitement, hosting the competition reinforces Ghana’s status as one of Africa’s leading football nations. The U-20 Africa Cup of Nations remains a vital platform for nurturing young talent, having produced many players who later excelled at both club and international levels.

With the hosting rights now secured, Ghana is set to begin early preparations for what is anticipated to be a landmark event in African football.
