Officially, the 2026 World Cup will be held in June across 16 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Iran Football Federation has said the country will keep preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even though there is uncertainty about playing matches in the United States.
The federation’s president, Mehdi Taj, said Iran plans to continue its World Cup preparations but may boycott travelling to the U.S. He explained that while Iran will not boycott the tournament itself, they are considering avoiding matches hosted in the United States.
This situation is linked to ongoing political tensions between Iran and United States.
Iran is currently scheduled to play its group-stage matches in U.S. cities. These matches include games against New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles, and against Egypt in Seattle.
Because of the situation, the Iranian football authorities are discussing with FIFA about possibly moving their matches to Mexico.
However, FIFA has said that the official schedule has not changed.
