Pep Guardiola has confirmed he is stepping down as Manchester City manager after an emotional final game in charge, where he became visibly upset following the team’s 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa.
The Spanish coach said he feels extremely exhausted after a decade at the club and believes leaving at this stage is the right decision for both himself and Manchester City as they move into a new era.
Guardiola, who spent 10 years at the Etihad and won 20 trophies, reflected on his time at the club, saying the memories and relationships he built mattered more to him than the titles. He also admitted the emotional farewell was intensified by seeing players and staff break down after the final whistle.
Despite the disappointment of ending on a loss, he insisted his departure was carefully considered and in the best interest of everyone involved, adding that the club understood and respected his decision.
During his tenure, he managed over 500 games and delivered multiple Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, FA Cups, and League Cups, cementing one of the most successful managerial spells in English football history.
