Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu on his historic appointment as Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football, describing the development as a proud moment for Nigeria and the West African subregion.
The President noted that Adamu’s elevation marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s sporting history, as he becomes the first Nigerian to occupy the top administrative role in CAF since the organization’s establishment in 1957.
Adamu’s appointment was confirmed following a decision by CAF’s Executive Committee and ratified by its Congress during a meeting held in Cairo, Egypt. He assumed the role in an acting capacity after the departure of former Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba.
Before his promotion, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he gained recognition for overseeing and delivering major continental competitions with efficiency and innovation. His track record in organizing high-profile football events across Africa earned him credibility within the governing body.
President Tinubu praised Adamu’s professionalism, dedication, and excellence, stating that his appointment reflects Nigeria’s growing influence in African football administration. He expressed confidence that Adamu would leverage his experience and strategic insight to strengthen CAF’s operations and further develop football across the continent’s 54 member associations.
The President also reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for Adamu in his new role, emphasizing that the appointment aligns with his administration’s broader agenda of promoting sports development, youth empowerment, and global competitiveness.
Adamu’s emergence is widely regarded as a landmark achievement, positioning Nigeria at the center of continental football governance and signaling a new chapter for African football leadership.
