It was a hard fight for Nigeria’s side but a draw was achieved.

Nigeria staged a remarkable late comeback to hold Russia to a thrilling 3-3 draw in their international friendly in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles appeared destined for defeat after Russia opened up a 3-1 lead, but goals from Osayande Edokpolor and Akor Adams in the final 12 minutes rescued a draw for Eric Chelle’s side.

Kelechi Iheanacho gave Nigeria a dream start when he fired home from outside the box in the 10th minute, with Abdullahi Bewene providing the assist.

Russia responded strongly, with Lechi Sadulaev restoring parity in the 30th minute before Matvey Kislyak put the hosts ahead deep into first-half stoppage time.

Aleksey Miranchuk extended Russia’s advantage in the 54th minute, leaving Nigeria facing a two-goal deficit.

The Super Eagles, however, refused to surrender.

Edokpolor reduced the deficit in the 78th minute, finishing a fast break from the left side of the box to make it 3-2.

Nigeria continued to push for an equaliser and were rewarded in the fourth minute of added time when Adams converted from inside the box following a swift counter-attack set up by Umar Abubakar.

Russia had one final opportunity to snatch victory, but Aleksey Batrakov fired over in the eighth minute of added time as Nigeria held on for a hard-earned draw.
