FAAN announces commencement of cashless payments at Lagos, Abuja airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that all payments at airports will soon be cashless. The new system will begin at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on September 29, 2025.
According to FAAN, this change will make services faster, safer, and easier for travellers. Payments at places like airport gates, car parks, VIP lounges, and protocol lounges will only be accepted through electronic or contactless options.
To help people adjust, FAAN has placed trained assistants at the airports. They will guide passengers, show how the system works, and answer questions.
Travellers can also get a FAAN Go Cashless Card at airport gates in Lagos and Abuja. The card can be activated and funded online at www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng.
FAAN explained that this move will reduce cash handling, improve transparency, boost efficiency, and bring Nigeria’s airports in line with global digital practices. The agency also said it plans to expand the system to other airports in the country in phases.
