Ikeja Unique Shows Support to Makoko constituency and Surulere National Stadium community this month of January – Hunger Relief Month

Ikeja Unique Lions Club under District 404B2 Nigeria has reiterated its service to humanity by showing love to the people of Makoko constituency and Surulere National Stadium community this month of January.

Being a month of hunger relief, members of the Ikeja Unique Lions Club took their humanitarian gesture to two constituencies in Yaba Local Government Area, Lagos, where they fed over 100 people in each community. According to Lions Club International, the month of December and January are months of relieving hunger among the less-privileged within communities. At the event, president of Ikeja Unique Lions Club, pharmacy Stephen Onojomete, spoke on being there for the needy especially in times like these ” Every year in the month of December and January, we in Lions Club international do projects on hunger relief. This year was themed ‘Feed the hungry’ and we at Ikeja Unique Lions Club are happy to be part of this project. Reaching out to the less privileged especially in times like these where hunger is rampant is a blessing to us. We know how difficult things are in the country; so to show some love especially to the less privileged, we decided to share some raw food items with them. We know the items are not enough but at least it will go a little way for them.”

He also spoke to the privileged, co-operate organizations and NGOs and to also reachout to the needy.

“I am happy we are Ikeja Unique Lions Club were able to touch the lives of many individuals in these communities, as we saw the smiles on their faces as they took the token items we brought for them. We know more of what we are doing can be done by co-operative organizations, NGOs and even private individuals. So we employ that they should please reach out to the those in need as there are some people out there who really needs their help.”

Also at the event is the service chairperson of the Ikeja Unique Lions Club, Lion Matthew Obasohan, who spoke on the importance of the venues the club reached out too: ” we were able to reach out to two communities this month, those communities were Makoko constituency and Surulere National Stadium. These communities are places were we have many vibrant youths and the elderly, who need assistance with one thing or the other. As we all know, there are lots of youths who are unemployed and need assistance, this little token we handed to them will help assist them at least for some few days in terms of food. This is our own little way of helping the government and reaching out to the elderly, youths and unemployed in the community we serve.” He said.

Supporting the monthly activity was the Ikeja Unique Leos president, Leo Abimboye Kehinde. She appreciated everyone who participated in the project. “I would like to appreciate the people of Makoko and Surulere National Stadium for their support in this project. They don’t fail us as they turn out in good numbers. This project won’t have been a success without them, for that we say thank you.’

“We also know that there is no amount of food given that would be enough but putting a smile on faces of these people and relieving hunger for a little while goes a long way for everyone of us at Ikeja Unique Club.”

Appreciating the lions was one of the beneficiaries Abiola Rahman representing all the physically challenged benefactors, she said: “we all appreciate what the Ikeja Unique Lions Club are doing, especially in a month like this where many people are hungry. It’s not easy reaching out to the less privileged and physically challenged but they got to us to share some raw food items, for that we say God bless you all and may God enriching your pockets.”

Also speaking for all abled youths and elderly is Mr Taiwo Adeleye who appreciated the lions club for efforts to reach out to the less privileged. “I just want to say to Ikeja Unique Lions Club ‘a very big thank you’ for always being there for us. Reaching out to the less privileged shows they really have love for human kind and are ready to help. So we say more grace to your elbows and more wealth to your pockets,” he concluded.
