Wike At The Site Of Light Rail Project To Inspect, To Deliver Before 29th Of May
In a bid to ensure the timely completion of the Abuja Light Rail project before May 29, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike conducted an inspection on Wednesday, focusing on the ongoing construction of access roads to train stations.
The inspection covered the route from Metro Train Station in Central Area to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Expressing contentment with the progress observed, Wike reiterated the importance of adhering to the May 29 delivery deadline. The inspected stations included Wupa Train Station near Idu and Bassanjiwa Station in proximity to the airport.
“This is part of our routine inspection of ongoing projects to see what the contractors have been doing,” stated Minister Wike. Emphasizing the need for access roads to train stations, he highlighted that creating these roadways was vital for the effective use of the metro system by residents.
Wike acknowledged the dedication of the contractors and their commitment to working day and night to meet the project’s completion timeline.
Stressing the significance of the project, he stated that it aimed to fulfill promises made to President Bola Tinubu and the FCT residents, with the anticipated operation of the Metro line in May.
Addressing concerns about funding, the minister assured that the FCT Administration was well-prepared and had secured funding sources for the project.
Regarding security, Wike noted the improved situation in the territory, stating that the ability to work at night in Abuja signaled a secure environment.
During the inspection, Wike also assessed the progress of a single-lane expressway construction from Idu Industrial Layout to Zuba, undertaken by Salini Nigeria Ltd.
He explained the project’s delay, citing the need for permission from the Federal Ministry of Transport due to its crossing a rail line. Pending approval, the minister expressed optimism for accelerated progress on this expressway.
