    Veteran Nigerian actress Elizabeth Evoeme, famously known as Ovularia from the popular 80s TV show ‘The New Masquerade’, has died at 81, leaving behind a legacy that shaped the Nigerian TV industry.

    Here are five things to note about the iconic actress:

    Her Background:

    Born on December 1, 1942, in Calabar, Cross River State to a sea worker father.

    Elizabeth Evoeme gained nationwide recognition for her portrayal of Ovularia, the devoted wife of Chief Zebrudaya Okoroigwe Nwogbo, played by Chika Okpala.

    Her character, a petty trader with a blend of confidence and obedience, made her to be loved by audiences across Nigeria.

    False Death Rumours:

    Ovularia’s death comes amidst a backdrop of false rumors.

    In November 2019, rumours about her death circulated on social media, prompting the actress to debunk the claims and express her suprise at the spread of misinformation.

    Chika Okpala also stepped in to confirm her well-being, emphasizing her continued presence in the entertainment industry.

    Contributions to Nigerian TV:

    Evoeme’s career spanned from 1982 to 1993, preceding the rise of Nollywood.

    Her role in ‘The New Masquerade’ not only entertained but also reflected societal system, earning her a place in the hearts of many.

    In 2020, Elizabeth Evoeme received recognition for her invaluable contributions to the entertainment industry.

    Elizabeth Evoeme rose to national fame for her role as Ovularia on the the TV show, New Masquerade. She once explained that she never knew the meaning of the stage name “Ovuleria”
