    SDGs Short Film Challenge: Eze Daniel Izu shines as winner of second edition

    Eze Daniel Izu shines as winner of second edition of SDGs Short Film Challenge.

    Lagos based filmmaker, Eze Daniel Izu has emerged the winner of the second edition of SDGs Short Film Challenge and Awards with his short film, Wasted. Izu Wasted was declared the winner at a ceremony held in Abuja over the weekend.

    As the winner of the competition, Izu will receive N1 million grand prize for the competition.

    Other winners at the competition organized to create awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs by harnessing the creativity of youths are Road Trip by Victor Eyike/Accelerate TV, the first runner up and Oke Okuta by Oke Tolulope, the second runner up.

    Also, British Passport by Mahmood Pouyandeh from Iran was the winner for the Best Foreign Film while the Best Documentary Prize was won by Imperishable, film by Akansha Tiwari from India.

    Carbon Traces and Alone by Stafie Gan from USA and Stephen Shenboyejo won the award for the Best animation and Viewers Choice respectively.

    The competition was organized by the United Nations Information Centre, UNIC, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs and FreshNews Multimedia Company.

    Eze Daniel Izu shines as winner of second edition of SDGs Short Film Challenge.

    Speaking at the event, the SSA to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, who was represented at the event by her Senior Technical Advisor, Dr. Bala Yunusa said a total of 2,250 entries were received for the second edition of the competition, up from 73 entries submitted for the first edition. This, he said reflected growing interest in the competition from inside and outside the country.

    The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator a.i in Nigeria, Elsie Attafuah in her remarks, stated that the SDGs Short Film Challenge is a veritable too for advocating for the SDGs.

    “This SDGs Short Film Challenge is far more than a film show: It is a vital step towards realizing the full potential of young people in Nigeria, leveraging the veritable platform of the movie and entertainment industry.”

    “It is an innovative initiative designed to empower young filmmakers to spotlight developmental issues through the lens of sustainability, leverages the storytelling power of film to amplify youth voices, foster creativity, and inspire collective action to tackle gender inequality, to address climate change. These films are more than artistic expressions; they are calls to action toward achieving the global goals,” she stated.

    Present at the well-attended grand finale of the competition were the Speaker of House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas represented by Hon Usman Bashir Zubairu and the Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives represented by Mr Hamza Baba.

    Others are the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy represented Imran Garba Duba, the Director General of NYSC represented by the FCT Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka and Shuaibu Hussein, Executive Director/CEO of National Film and Video Censors Board represented by Ms Deborah Malgwi.
