    LASU holds 28th convocation, 192 bag first class

    At its 28th convocation, a total of 192 graduates from Lagos State University, Ojo, will receive First Class degrees at the institution.

    Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello announced during a press briefing on Thursday at the university’s Senate building, as part of the convocation activities.

    In accordance to Olatunji-Bello, this year’s convocation marks her fourth consecutive ceremony as Vice Chancellor of the institution.

    She said, “Among the 8,711 students graduating with first degree programmes from the University, 192 came out with First Class honours and 17 with Unclassified(MBBS/BDS) Degrees, 3076 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4397 with Second Class Lower Division, 990 with Third Class and 39 with a pass.

    “I am delighted to announce that NWOSU ISIOMA SYBIL of the Biochemistry Department with a CGPA of 4.93 (First Class Honours) is our overall best-graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session.

    “Out of the 2,235 postgraduate students graduating, we have 302 postgraduate diplomas, 1,132 academic master’s degrees, 639 professional master’s degrees, 125 doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees and 37 professional doctoral degrees.”

    The VC noted that besides the 162 doctoral degree awardees, the university would confer Honorary Doctorate degrees on two eminent Nigerians.

    “They are the Chairman National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and a former Military Governor of Lagos State, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd) and a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, for their invaluable contributions to the development of our university and the nation at large,” she disclosed.

    The VC added, “One of our long-serving and esteemed academics, Professor Joseph Abayomi Olagunju will be elevated to the rank of Distinguished Professor.”
