Lincoln University’s 166th convocation: Nigerians graduate with distinction

… described her achievement as a milestone and a foundation for future success.

Four Nigerian students studying at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania graduated with distinction during the institution’s 166th convocation ceremony. Among seven Nigerians who earned first degrees, these four stood out by achieving perfect grade point averages of 4.0.

Their academic excellence was particularly recognized in fields such as mathematics, computer science, and health sciences. The distinguished graduates are Iteoluwa Jesutoromo Ibitoye, Chinyere Obiageli Offor, Praise Olalekan, and Osoname Fortune Omonagbe.

Brendan Allen, president of Lincoln University, commended the four graduates for their resilience and strong work ethic. He highlighted their focus, courage, good character, and self-discipline throughout their studies, expressing confidence that they would represent the university well as ambassadors.

“These valedictorians showed focus despite the distractions around them. They displayed great courage, good character and self-discipline. There is no doubt, they will be great ambassadors of this university,” Allen said.

Iteoluwa Jesutoromo Ibitoye, daughter of veteran journalist Toyin Ibitoye, expressed gratitude to God for her academic journey. She described her achievement as a milestone and a foundation for future success.

“I am so happy that everything has turned out this way. I thank Jesus Christ, my Lord, for seeing me through,” she said. “I am also very happy that I have made my parents and siblings proud, and along with my other Nigerian valedictorians, given a good impression of our dear nation. I believe God and know that this is the beginning of greater things to come.”

Founded in 1854, Lincoln University holds the distinction of being the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the United States. The achievements of these Nigerian students add to the university’s long-standing legacy of academic excellence and leadership.
