Okpebholo Remains Governor Of Edo As Apex Court Delivers Final Verdict.
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has hailed the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming him as the duly elected governor as a “historic judgment” that conclusively ends the legal disputes surrounding the 2024 governorship election.
In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor said the apex court’s decision goes beyond a judicial endorsement—it represents the reaffirmation of the will of the Edo people.
“Today, the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered a historic verdict confirming Senator Monday Okpebholo as the legitimately elected Governor of Edo State. This marks the end of all legal challenges stemming from the 2024 governorship election,” the statement read.
Expressing gratitude to the judiciary for its “courage and commitment to justice,” Governor Okpebholo also thanked Edo citizens for their unwavering support and patience during the post-election legal battles.
“This verdict is not just a legal win—it is a resounding confirmation of the sacred mandate given to us by the people. It marks the beginning of a new era focused on unity, inclusiveness, and accelerated growth.”
He emphasized that the judgment should not be seen as a personal win but a collective victory for every citizen of Edo, cutting across political, ethnic, and religious lines.
“This is a victory for all. It is time to rise above division and unite for the betterment of our dear state,” he said.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to delivering good governance, Governor Okpebholo highlighted key focus areas such as security, infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and job creation.
“I pledge to lead with humility, compassion, and accountability, ensuring our people benefit meaningfully from this mandate,” he added.
In a reconciliatory gesture, the governor reached out to his political opponents, calling for peace, unity, and collaboration in moving Edo State forward.
“The elections are behind us; now begins the real work of governance. I extend a sincere hand of fellowship to all opposition members and stakeholders. Let’s focus on building our state together.”
Governor Okpebholo also welcomed constructive engagement from all quarters, urging political actors to put Edo’s development above partisan interests.
