Lagos notifies of closure of popular road in Victoria Island due to repair

Lagos shuts Ozumba Mbadiwe Road
The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to conduct critical repair works on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, a vital artery connecting Victoria Island to Lekki, starting Monday, September 15, and concluding Sunday, September 21, 2025.
The repairs, targeting the stretch from Bonny Camp Junction, will be carried out exclusively at night between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM to reduce inconvenience to commuters and maintain the flow of daytime traffic in one of Lagos’ busiest commercial hubs.
In a statement released on Sunday, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure while prioritising the convenience of residents and businesses.
“The decision to schedule repairs at night reflects our dedication to minimizing disruption in this high-traffic corridor,” Osiyemi said.
“We urge motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials during this period to ensure a smooth process,” he added.
Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, a key route for thousands of daily commuters, has experienced wear and tear due to heavy vehicular use and environmental factors, necessitating urgent maintenance to enhance safety and drivability.
The week-long project will focus on resurfacing damaged sections, repairing potholes, and improving drainage systems to mitigate flooding risks during the rainy season.
By limiting repair work to off-peak hours, the government aims to prevent gridlock in an area known for its bustling corporate offices, luxury residences, and commercial centres.
Traffic management teams will be deployed to guide motorists and ensure safety, with alternative routes signposted for those seeking to avoid the repair zone.
