YOMAFA Global Awards: Gospel Star, Oba Ara, Shines As “Most Versatile Artist”

In a heartwarming and triumphant moment for Nigerian gospel music, Doctor Evangelist Rotimi Onimole, popularly known as Oba Ara, has been honoured with the “Most Versatile Artist” Award at the highly esteemed YOMAFA Global Awards. The event, which celebrates excellence across music, arts, film, and culture, recognised Oba Ara’s dynamic contribution and innovation in the gospel music industry.

A native of Isale Eko, Lagos Island, Oba Ara has spent decades crafting a distinct sound that fuses traditional gospel with contemporary rhythms, rich African instrumentation, and spiritually uplifting lyrics. His musical journey, marked by resilience, creativity, and an unwavering dedication to ministry, has earned him a prominent place in the hearts of gospel lovers both in Nigeria and across the globe.

Upon receiving the award, a visibly moved Oba Ara expressed deep gratitude to the award organisers and extended heartfelt appreciation to those who have supported his career over the years.

    In his words:

“I always tell upcoming singers to give their best in whatever they do because people are watching us. Honestly, I didn’t believe I could win such a big award, but I’ve always done my best to satisfy my fans.

This award is going to go a long way in inspiring me further in my career. I dedicate it wholeheartedly to my band members, my family, and all my amazing fans around the world.”

The “Most Versatile Artist” category recognises artists who have demonstrated outstanding flexibility and creativity in their craft — qualities that Oba Ara has exemplified consistently. From soul-stirring worship songs to energetic praise medleys, he continues to bridge generational gaps through music that resonates with both the old and young.

Over the years, Oba Ara has also become a mentor and role model to many up-and-coming gospel artists. His message to aspiring musicians remains clear: commitment, excellence, and spiritual focus are non-negotiable for those who wish to go far.

His win at the YOMAFA Global Awards is not just a personal achievement but a celebration of the richness of Nigerian gospel music. It also highlights how gospel artists are breaking barriers and gaining recognition on prestigious platforms traditionally dominated by secular categories.

As he looks to the future, Oba Ara remains committed to expanding his ministry through music, mentoring, and outreach. He promises fans even more soul-lifting songs and impactful projects in the months ahead.

Rotimi Onimole, widely celebrated as Oba Ara, hails from the historic and culturally rich area of Isale Eko in Lagos. From a young age, he showed a profound interest in music, particularly songs with spiritual and moral messages. His early exposure to the gospel and traditional Yoruba music greatly influenced his unique sound today.

Oba Ara rose to fame through a combination of spirit-filled performances, lyrically rich content, and a distinct voice that sets him apart in the gospel music scene. With a powerful blend of traditional Yoruba percussion, Afro-gospel fusion, and deep-rooted scriptural messages, he has created a niche for himself and become one of the most respected figures in Nigerian gospel music.

His music is not only popular in churches and spiritual gatherings but also embraced by a wider audience for its inspirational and motivational value. Songs from Oba Ara often reflect faith, hope, healing, and divine intervention, earning him the nickname “King of Wonders.”

Beyond the stage, Oba Ara is also a dedicated evangelist, using his platform to spread the gospel message. He often ministers at crusades, church programmes, and charitable events, leading people in worship and encouraging spiritual growth through his music.

Known for his humility and willingness to support others, Oba Ara has mentored several upcoming gospel artists and continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing talent within the gospel community.

The YOMAFA Global Award for Most Versatile Artist is the latest in a long list of accolades he has received. His ability to evolve with time while maintaining spiritual authenticity has earned him respect from fans, peers, and critics alike.

Oba Ara’s latest recognition is a testament to a life of service through music. As the gospel music industry continues to evolve, his voice remains a guiding light—reminding both listeners and fellow artists that with passion, purpose, and prayer, gospel music can change lives and transform societies.
