Nigerian-British actress Wunmi Mosaku has shared details regarding the physical and emotional challenges she faced while filming the supernatural thriller Sinners shortly after the birth of her first child. Mosaku, 39, who welcomed a daughter in 2024, described the transition from full-time motherhood to a high-profile film set as a “huge shock.” In a recent interview with W Magazine, the Academy Award nominee discussed the biological toll of the transition. “I went from breastfeeding every meal to my baby to pumping. It was a huge shock,” Mosaku stated. “I didn’t realise I was getting a hit of oxytocin every time I fed my baby. I had a comedown that was so sharp and visceral.”

The actress revealed that the emotional “low” she experienced during this period contributed to a lack of focus, resulting in a physical injury during her first week on set. “I was moving so fast, and a knife slipped. I cut my thumb open and wasted an entire morning in urgent care,” she said. Following the accident, Mosaku’s husband, talent agent Tash Moseley, encouraged her to find perspective through her character, Annie, a hoodoo healer. Mosaku recalled, “My husband said, ‘What would Annie do?’ And I thought, she’d have been more intentional about the time with her daughter. And that was the lesson I learned in week one from Annie: Slow down.”

Mosaku’s performance in the Ryan Coogler-directed film has earned significant critical acclaim, including nominations for Best Supporting Actress at both the 2026 Academy Awards and the BAFTA Film Awards. Sinners made cinematic history this year by receiving 16 Oscar nominations, the highest number ever recorded for a single film. Earlier this month, while attending the 2026 Golden Globes in a custom yellow gown, Mosaku publicly announced that she is currently pregnant with her second child, explaining in a concurrent Vogue essay that she chose the moment to “stop trying to camouflage” her pregnancy and enjoy the awards season alongside her growing family.
