Lagos Fanti Carnival holds in April
Lagos State Government has made open the Official Lagos Fanti Carnival, a celebration of Afro-Brazilian culture and the enduring legacy of the Fanti people.
The event is slated for Monday, April 6, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, the government described the carnival as “a homecoming — a bridge between past and future, tradition and modernity,” emphasising its role in strengthening ties between West Africa and the diaspora.
“The Official Lagos Fanti Carnival is a grand celebration of Afro-Brazilian heritage, honouring the rich cultural legacy of the Fanti people and their enduring connection between West Africa and the diaspora.
“Through vibrant processions, ancestral music, breathtaking costumes, and communal gatherings, this carnival is a homecoming — a bridge between past and future, tradition and modernity,” the statement added.
The official website also highlighted different ticket options for attendees.
“The Carnival Pass – General grants you access to concerts, side events, and the full lineup of the Lagos Fanti Carnival,” it said.
“The Carnival Pass – VIP provides full access, including private events, film screenings, carnival dinners with partners, and selected guests.”
For those wishing to join the processions, the statement noted: “The Participation Pass grants you access to be part of the carnival processions, while the VIP Participation Pass gives all-access privileges, allowing you to experience the carnival dressed in the flamboyant colours and beautiful pageantry.”
Other passes include: “The Youth Pass is exclusively for wards below the age of 12, with adult supervision mandatory
“The Creator Pass is reserved for social media video and photo creators looking to document the entire experience,” and “The Press + Media Pass is reserved for members of the press – TV, radio, print, and social media.”
For business participants, the statement said: “The Vendor Pass allows business owners to sell items such as food, art, merchandise, fashion, souvenirs, gift items, and more.”
