The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the bye-elections for two constituencies in Kano State, capturing the Kano Municipal and Ungogo seats in the State House of Assembly following Saturday’s polls.
In Kano Municipal, APC candidate Aliyu Nabil Daneji polled 7,484 votes to emerge victorious, while in Ungogo constituency Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad secured 8,975 votes to clinch the seat. Returning officers for both constituencies declared the candidates duly elected after confirming they met all legal requirements.
The elections were conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fill vacancies created by the deaths of the former lawmakers who represented the constituencies.
Reports indicate that the polls recorded low voter turnout, which officials attributed to timing, limited party participation, and local political dynamics, though the exercise was generally peaceful with security personnel deployed across voting centers.
The victories strengthen APC’s position in the Kano State legislature amid shifting political alignments in the state, where recent defections and party realignments have continued to reshape the balance of power.
