Peter Obi has dismissed rumours of an alleged assassination attempt and warnings against his travel to certain parts of the country, insisting that he will continue to move freely across Nigeria as guaranteed by the constitution.
Speaking during a visit to Anambra State, the former governor and 2023 presidential candidate said he was aware of reports advising him to avoid particular regions but maintained that such warnings would not stop him from engaging with Nigerians across the federation.
Obi stated that as a Nigerian citizen, he has the constitutional right to travel and interact with people in every part of the country, stressing that no individual or group has the authority to restrict his movements.
“Nobody can stop me from going anywhere in Nigeria. This country belongs to all of us,” he said. “As a Nigerian, I have the constitutional right to move freely across all 36 states.”
He noted that his visits to different communities are part of his continued engagement with citizens on issues affecting national development and governance, adding that he remains committed to listening to Nigerians and contributing to conversations on the country’s future.
Obi also urged political actors and citizens to reject politics of intimidation and threats, emphasizing that democracy thrives when leaders are free to interact openly with the people they seek to represent.
“We must build a country where everyone can move freely and speak without fear,” he added. “Nigeria will only progress when we strengthen our democratic values and respect the rights of every citizen.”
The comments come amid growing speculation on social media about alleged security threats surrounding the former governor’s movements, claims that have circulated in recent days but remain unverified by security agencies.
Obi, however, maintained that he would not allow rumours or intimidation to deter him from continuing his nationwide engagements with Nigerians.
