The Federal Government has formally endorsed the 2026 edition of the Meet Africa Fashion Festival (MAFEST), pledging full institutional backing for the continental event as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s textile sector and showcase African creativity on the global stage.
The government announced that the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy will coordinate the national preparations and engagements for the festival, working with industry stakeholders, designers, textile manufacturers and cultural institutions to ensure the event delivers economic and cultural value.
Officials said the endorsement reflects a broader strategy by the Federal Government to position Nigeria as a major hub for Africa’s fashion and creative industries, while also promoting local production in the textile value chain.
According to government representatives, the festival is expected to bring together fashion designers, textile producers, creative entrepreneurs and investors from across the continent, creating opportunities for collaboration and industry expansion. “The Meet Africa Fashion Festival represents an important platform for promoting African talent, strengthening the textile sector and expanding the global visibility of our creative economy,” an official involved in the initiative said.
Authorities noted that the event would also serve as a marketplace for African fashion brands and textile innovators, while encouraging greater patronage of locally produced fabrics and garments.
Industry observers say the government’s endorsement could significantly elevate the profile of the festival and attract broader participation from across Africa and the diaspora. The initiative aligns with ongoing national efforts to diversify Nigeria’s economy by promoting non-oil sectors, including culture, tourism and the creative industries.
Officials further explained that the ministry will coordinate partnerships with fashion councils, cultural organisations and private sector stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of the event. “With the government’s support, the festival will not only celebrate African fashion but also stimulate growth across the textile production chain and creative economy,” the official said.
The 2026 edition of the Meet Africa Fashion Festival is expected to feature runway showcases, industry forums, exhibitions and networking events designed to spotlight emerging designers and reinforce Africa’s growing influence in the global fashion industry.
