Toyota Motor Corporation has recorded strong initial demand for its newly launched bZ7 electric vehicle in China, receiving more than 3,000 orders within the first hour of sales, according to reports from the launch.
The model, developed by Toyota Motor Corporation, was introduced as a premium electric SUV aimed at competing in China’s rapidly expanding EV market. The vehicle was developed with technology contributions from Chinese tech firms including Xiaomi, Momenta, and Huawei.
Pricing for the bZ7 reportedly ranges from approximately 147,800 to 199,800 yuan, positioning it in the mid-to-upper segment of the market while maintaining relatively competitive pricing for its class.
The vehicle is equipped with advanced driver-assistance and navigation systems, including a LiDAR-based navigation solution provided through Momenta’s technology. Interior features include premium seating options such as zero-gravity front seats with massage functions, as well as in-car convenience features like a refrigerator.
Battery configurations include a 71 kWh pack in the base version, offering an estimated range of up to 372 miles, while higher variants with an 88 kWh battery can achieve up to 435 miles. The vehicle also supports fast charging capable of delivering up to 186 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes.
The bZ7 is part of Toyota’s broader effort to strengthen its position in China’s competitive electric vehicle sector, where it faces strong competition from domestic manufacturers such as BYD and global rivals including Tesla.
