Nigeria’s newly appointed Foreign Affairs Minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has pledged to promote and protect the country’s interests on the global stage as she assumes office.
She said her approach will align with President Bola Tinubu’s “4D” foreign policy framework—focused on Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora—which is designed to guide Nigeria’s international relations.
Expressing gratitude for her appointment, the minister said she is committed to supporting the administration’s agenda and strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic presence worldwide through citizen-focused engagement and strategic partnerships.
Her appointment follows the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections, in line with directives for aspirants to leave public office.
Before her promotion, Odumegwu-Ojukwu served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Meanwhile, the presidency has nominated seasoned diplomat Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State, pending Senate confirmation.
Overall, the new minister signaled readiness to build on existing foreign policy goals while advancing Nigeria’s influence and national priorities internationally.
