… clocks 48.47 seconds to claim latest athletics title.

Ezekiel Nathaniel delivered a sensational performance to win the men’s 400 metres hurdles gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, clocking 48.47 seconds to claim Nigeria’s latest athletics title.

Competing at Scotstoun Stadium, the 23-year-old Nigerian produced a commanding run to become the only athlete in the final to break the 49-second barrier, underlining his superiority in one of the Games’ most competitive track events.

England’s Jake Minshull settled for the silver medal in 48.99 seconds, while Jamaica’s Assinie Wilson claimed bronze after finishing in 49.22 seconds.

Dominica’s Dennick Luke narrowly missed the podium in 49.27 seconds, with England’s Seamus Derbyshire placing fifth in 49.45 seconds. Guernsey’s Alastair Chalmers finished sixth in 50.24 seconds, ahead of India’s Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan (50.37 seconds) and compatriot Yashas Palaksha (51.81 seconds).

Nathaniel‘s triumph capped a superb campaign in Glasgow after he qualified for the final as the fastest hurdler, reinforcing his status as one of the favourites for the title.

The victory also strengthens Team Nigeria’s impressive athletics campaign at the Glasgow Games, coming on the heels of other standout performances by Nigerian athletes, including world-record and gold medal exploits in the athletics programme.

Nathaniel, the Nigerian record holder in the event, once again demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the world’s leading 400m hurdlers, producing a composed race and a powerful finish to secure Commonwealth gold for Nigeria.
