President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on his conferment of the Sardauna of Ilorin title, urging him to regard the honour as a call to greater service and responsibility.
The President said the traditional title was a fitting recognition of AbdulRazaq’s leadership, public service and contributions to the development of Kwara State, particularly his efforts towards inclusive growth, social cohesion and the well-being of the people.
The 11th Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Kolapo Sulu-Gambari, is scheduled to confer the title on the governor in Ilorin on Wednesday, September 16.
Tinubu, in a statement on Tuesday from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described AbdulRazaq’s turbaning as Sardauna of Ilorin as historic.
The President also commended the Emir for bestowing the prestigious title on the governor, who is also President of the Forum of Regions of Africa.
“Governor AbdulRazaq, I urge you to embrace the culturally significant and historic title not only as a mark of honour, but also as a call to greater service and responsibility.
“I am confident that you will bring your experience, leadership, statesmanship and goodwill to bear in advancing the interests of the people of Kwara State and contributing to the progress and unity of Nigeria”, Tinubu said.
He further praised the Emir of Ilorin for preserving the important role of traditional institutions in fostering harmony and supporting democratic governance and sustainable development.
According to the President, the conferment underscores the governor’s record of public service and his contributions to the development of the state.
Tinubu wished AbdulRazaq wisdom, strength and good health as he takes on the responsibilities associated with the traditional title.
“I wish you continued success, wisdom, strength and good health as you assume the responsibilities of the Sardauna of Ilorin. May this honour further inspire you to serve your people and our nation,” Tinubu said.
