The joint exhibition “Veils of Becoming” by Nigerian artists Sunday O. Dabo and Rasaq B. Adewunmi has officially opened, drawing attention for its deeply introspective exploration of African womanhood, identity, and cultural memory.
The exhibition features a striking collection of layered portraiture and mixed-media works that examine the emotional, historical, and societal experiences of African women through textured visual storytelling. Using symbolic imagery, fragmented forms, and expressive color palettes, the artists seek to capture themes of resilience, transformation, tradition, and self-discovery.
According to the curators, “Veils of Becoming” reflects on how identity is shaped by memory, heritage, spirituality, and evolving cultural expectations. The artworks invite viewers to engage with questions surrounding femininity, belonging, silence, visibility, and personal evolution within African societies.
Visitors at the exhibition opening praised the collection for its emotional depth and contemporary interpretation of African experiences, noting how the works balance vulnerability with strength. The showcase also highlights the growing influence of contemporary Nigerian art in global conversations around culture, identity, and social reflection.
Organisers say the exhibition is expected to attract collectors, art enthusiasts, students, and cultural scholars interested in modern African visual expression and the evolving narratives surrounding gender and identity in contemporary art.
