Uber has introduced a new hotel booking feature within its app as part of its strategy to evolve into a comprehensive “everything app.” The service, developed in partnership with Expedia, allows users to search and reserve hotel rooms from a selection of more than 700,000 properties. The feature integrates travel tools such as maps, filters, and pricing options, while enabling payments through saved card details already stored in the Uber platform. According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the company is expanding beyond ride-hailing and food delivery to become a unified platform for a wide range of everyday services. Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin said the collaboration is aimed at simplifying travel planning and reducing the steps required to complete bookings. Uber also plans to extend the partnership to include short-term rental listings through Vrbo in the future. The move reflects a broader global trend toward multifunctional apps that combine services like transport, shopping, and payments in a single ecosystem, similar to platforms such as WeChat and Alipay in China. Other tech companies are also pursuing similar “super app” models, including Airbnb, which has added experiences and personal services, and X, which is exploring financial services integration. Uber further revealed plans to incorporate AI-powered tools, including meal planning, shopping list creation, delivery coordination, and a voice assistant for navigating the app.

A group of Entrepreneurs in Uyo, at the weekend, launched a real estate academy to train and empower Akwa Ibom youths and to enable them to be active participants in the sector.

Enterprise Valley Academy, located in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the group is also to drive investors in the real estate sector as well as alleviate the current economic hardship.

Speaking at the launch of the academy, the President of the academy, Inimfon Colonel, said “Enterprise Valley Academy will be a lighthouse of education, empowerment and prosperity for all. Together let’s innovate, how we approach real estate, elevate our understanding and ultimately dominate our parts to success.

He described real estate as a gold mine and encouraged the youths to look beyond the government and rather get involved in real estate to create wealth and jobs, they advocated involvement in real estate as a reliable source of income.

“Under the current economy you don’t sit down and say oh, I work for the government so I cannot do real estate, no, join us let’s transform the world through you.

“There is a gold mine in real estate in this city of Uyo. We can attract the attention of the world to the welcoming environment in Akwa Ibom State and we smile at the banks courtesy of real estates.”

Speaking further, the Chairman of the board of Enterprise Valley Academy, Gideon Ekanem said “The real estate sector helps you not just to invest, you also earn money as a broker, or as an investor. The opportunities are just massive when you come into the academy, we hold your hands through the process.

In their reactions, attendees at the inauguration expressed delight over the academy saying it would be an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the sector to create for themselves

Encouraging participants at the event, an Uyo based celebrity real estate promoter, Uche Sandra said “Just a few years ago, I felt I was making a mistake being in Uyo, my economic life was not encouraging, but immediately God opened my eyes to the goldmine in real estate my life changed, I can confidently say that Akwa Ibom is the World’s best kept secret. This state is currently the most sought-after destination in Nigeria.”

Also, one of the participants who gave his name as Etini Uko said “Instead of going for iPhones and other personal belongings, as young people it is better to invest in our future by acquiring knowledge and that is why I attended this event and also registered for the academy.
