The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a new arrangement to end repeated charges for the verification of candidates’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other O’Level results.

Under the new policy, candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions through JAMB will pay N4,000 once to verify their WAEC results. The verified result will then be made available to the candidate’s preferred institution for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes.

The move is aimed at reducing the financial burden on admission seekers, who have previously been required by some institutions to pay separate verification fees and make repeated trips to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.

In a joint statement, JAMB and WAEC said candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB would only need to verify their WAEC results once through the JAMB platform.

The examination bodies said the verification could be initiated by candidates from home or any other internet-enabled location through the platform provided by JAMB.

Once a candidate’s result has been successfully verified, the outcome will be shared with the relevant tertiary institution for admission-related purposes.

JAMB and WAEC also directed tertiary institutions not to impose additional verification charges on candidates.

“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” the bodies stressed, adding that institutions were expected to make use of the verified results supplied by JAMB.

The new arrangement follows a series of meetings and consultations between JAMB and WAEC aimed at streamlining the verification of O’Level results and making the admission process less burdensome for candidates.

WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share verification outcomes with relevant tertiary institutions for screening and other admission-related processes.

With the new policy, a single successful verification will be usable for multiple admission purposes. Candidates will therefore no longer need to repeatedly verify the same WAEC result whenever it is requested by another participating institution.

JAMB and WAEC urged candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions to take advantage of the new arrangement by verifying their WASSCE O’Level results once through the JAMB-provided Verification Service.
