UNILAG creates new faculties in computing, architecture, robotics, others

The University of Lagos has announced a major academic restructuring, with the unbundling of six existing faculties and the creation of eight new ones.
The update was disclosed in an official statement published on the university’s website on Friday, August 1.
According to the release, the newly created faculties which include Architecture, Basic Clinical Sciences, Communication and Media Studies, Computing and Informatics, Creative Arts, Health Professions, Life Sciences and Physical and Earth Sciences were unbundled from the already existing faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Sciences and Management Sciences.
This expansion increases the university’s faculties from twelve to nineteen, alongside the introduction of new departments and programmes such as Interior Architecture and Design, Landscape Architecture, Public Relations and Advertising, Journalism, Broadcasting and Media Studies, Music and Sound Production, Intelligent Systems and Robotics, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, among others.
The statement read, ‘’In our continuous drive to expand knowledge, foster innovation, and prepare students for the evolving future, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has unbundled some previously loved faculties to establish new faculties and programmes aimed at meeting the needs of a dynamic world. The new faculties are Architecture, Basic Clinical Sciences, Communication & Media Studies, Computing & Informatics, Creatives Arts, Health Professions, Life Sciences, and Physical & Earth Sciences.
