Nigeria’s solar energy sector is experiencing steady expansion as rising electricity costs, unreliable grid supply, and supportive policies push more businesses toward renewable alternatives. In a recent interview, the CEO of Daystar Power Group, Yischai Beinisch, explained that growing adoption is being driven largely by practical business needs rather than sustainability alone.
He noted that solar and hybrid systems are increasingly being embraced by companies seeking dependable and cost-efficient energy solutions. These systems are now commonly used alongside grid electricity, helping organisations maintain consistent operations while managing energy expenses in a volatile power environment.
Beinisch also highlighted the role of flexible financing models in accelerating adoption. According to him, service-based payment structures that eliminate large upfront capital requirements are making it easier for businesses to transition to solar. By spreading costs over time, companies can access reliable power without the financial burden traditionally associated with installing renewable energy systems.
He further explained that Daystar Power’s integrated approach—covering design, financing, installation, operation, and maintenance—has contributed to improved reliability and customer satisfaction. This model allows clients to focus on their core operations while the company manages the technical and operational aspects of energy delivery.
The interview also pointed to the importance of regulatory support, particularly policies from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), which have encouraged embedded generation and distributed energy solutions. These frameworks are seen as helping to create a more enabling environment for private sector participation in the energy space.
Beinisch added that innovation remains central to improving efficiency and uptime. Technologies such as remote monitoring, data analytics, and hybrid configurations that combine solar panels, batteries, and generators are being used to optimise performance and ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Overall, the discussion underscores a broader shift in Nigeria’s energy landscape, where solar power is becoming a practical alternative for businesses, supported by evolving financing structures, regulatory reforms, and increasing awareness of its economic benefits.
