AMAA’s 2024 theme, ‘Celebrating African Creativity,’ as The Weekend, Jagun Jagun top nominations
The Africa Film Academy has unveiled the nominees for the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards.
During a press briefing held at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, the organisers announced the nominations for the prestigious event, which will celebrate its 20th edition under the theme ‘Celebrating African Creativity.’
Leading the pack is Uche Okocha’s Nigerian film, The Weekend, with 16 nominations, followed by Femi Adebayo’s Jagun Jagun, which garnered seven nods.
The highly anticipated awards ceremony is set to take place on November 2 in Lagos, in collaboration with the Lagos State government.
Also, a Wednesday X post from AMAA via its handle #AMAAWARDS, wrote, “The Day Has Arrived! Today, we unveil the nominees for the 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA)! The Queenstown Kings
Founded by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe in 2005, the Africa Movie Academy Awards promote African filmmaking excellence under the Africa Film Academy.
It annually celebrates industry professionals, renowned as the premier accolade in African cinema, evolving from a televised event into a year-round platform.
The inaugural 2005 ceremony in Yenagoa, Nigeria, set the stage for subsequent editions predominantly hosted there until the first international event in 2015.
