Comedian Okey Bakassi now a Crowned King
Veteran comedian and actor Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, widely known as Okey Bakassi, has been crowned king of Umuihuocha Autonomous Community in Mbaise, Imo State.
The coronation represents a significant milestone for one of Africa’s longest-serving stand-up comedians. In a social media announcement confirming the news, Bakassi expressed gratitude to his community, describing the new role as “a new beginning and a community service to his people.”
Following the announcement, numerous celebrities and media personalities have publicly congratulated the new monarch, including prominent figures such as Ali Baba, Yaw, Kcee, and Acapella.
Prior to this royal appointment, Bakassi served as Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.
The beloved entertainer has established himself as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s comedy scene, with his successful career now expanding into traditional leadership within his home community.
