The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced the nationwide celebration of International Actors Day on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, joining actors and the global creative community in honouring the men and women whose talent, sacrifice and creativity continue to shape the motion picture industry.
International Actors Day is an important occasion to celebrate actors, recognise their contributions, promote their welfare and professional development, strengthen unity within the acting community, and highlight the immense cultural and economic value of the motion picture industry. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the challenges confronting actors and renew collective commitment to building a more sustainable, inclusive and globally competitive creative industry.
For Nigeria, the celebration holds special significance. Nigerian actors have, over the years, demonstrated extraordinary resilience, creativity, dedication and professionalism, helping to transform what is popularly known today as Nollywood into one of the world’s most recognised film industries. Through their performances, stories and cultural expressions, Nigerian actors have projected the nation’s identity, values, heritage and creativity to audiences across the globe, while contributing significantly to employment, tourism, investment and the growth of the creative economy.
As part of the 2026 celebration, the Actors Guild of Nigeria has earmarked a number of activities, including community service and outreach programmes, social networking engagements, actors’ hangouts, industry interactions, goodwill activities and other initiatives designed to promote camaraderie, professional networking and the welfare of actors.
The President of AGN, Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu, commended Nigerian actors for their sacrifices and commitment to the growth of Nollywood, noting that the industry’s remarkable journey would not have been possible without the talent, courage and perseverance of its actors.
He called on all Nollywood guilds and associations, industry stakeholders, government at all levels, corporate organisations, development partners and well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with the Actors Guild of Nigeria in making the 2026 International Actors Day a meaningful and memorable celebration.
Yakubu further emphasised that the celebration should go beyond entertainment, serving as a platform to strengthen solidarity, encourage partnerships, promote actors’ welfare and reaffirm the importance of the creative sector to national development.
The guild extends its warmest greetings and appreciation to actors across Nigeria and around the world for their invaluable contributions to the global entertainment landscape.
AGN congratulates all actors in advance and invites everyone to celebrate the passion, creativity and enduring spirit of the actor.
