Journey to my skit making – comedienne Lizzy Jay
Popular actress and skit maker Lizzy Jay, also known as Adeyela Adebola, has revealed that comedy was never part of her original career plan.
In an interview on Nollywood on Radio, she disclosed that she initially aspired to become a singer and a medical doctor.
Speaking about her unexpected journey into skit-making, Lizzy Jay explained that it all began out of boredom while she was home alone.
“Nothing was on my mind when I started making skits. What was on my mind was to do music, go to school, and become a medical doctor,” she said. “Skit-making was just a way of killing boredom. I was home alone, had my phone, and needed to do something.”
She added that her decision to create skits wasn’t influenced by trends or other content creators. “It wasn’t like I planned or saw people doing skits and thought to copy. I was just bored, and I started making a skit,” she said.
Lizzy’s breakthrough came when one of her skits, posted on Facebook, unexpectedly went viral after being shared by celebrities, including Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde.
The attention propelled her to take skit-making seriously, eventually establishing her as a successful content creator and actress in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
“I knew my skit was beyond just a boredom killer after one of my skits, which I posted on my page on Facebook, was reposted by several celebrities, including Omotola Jolade on Instagram. So, at that point, I just thought I needed to continue what I started,” she added.
Lizzy also transitioned into Nollywood, starring in films like Dear Affy, Dubara, and The Order of Things.
