LAPO MfB shines, wins national awards for MSME growth, women empowerment
LAPO Microfinance Bank has been honoured with several national awards in recognition of its wide-ranging contributions to enterprise development, gender empowerment, agricultural finance, and workforce advancement.
At a recent award ceremony hosted by the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN), LAPO was named Microfinance Bank with the Highest Impact on MSMEs in Nigeria, Microfinance Bank with the Highest Impact on Women-Owned MSMEs, and Participating Financial Institution (PFI) with the Highest Impact in the South-South Region of Nigeria.
The recognitions affirm LAPO’s efforts in expanding financial access to underserved entrepreneurs and communities, particularly women-led businesses, through innovative credit services and business support systems.
In a separate recognition, the HortiNigeria programme presented LAPO with its Recognition Award for the bank’s contributions to the development of Nigeria’s horticulture sector. The award cited LAPO’s support for smallholder farmers, agri-SMEs, and rural communities, noting the institution’s role in strengthening agricultural value chains and enhancing food security through improved access to finance.
Furthering its reputation as a development-focused institution, LAPO was also recognised by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), which awarded it Best Human Resources Institution for the Year 2023. The ITF acknowledged the bank’s continuous investment in employee training, upskilling, and welfare—elements that have contributed to organisational efficiency and staff productivity.
Reacting to the series of honours, Oluremi Akande, Director of Marketing and Communications at LAPO Microfinance Bank, said the awards reflect the institution’s broader mission to drive economic and social progress.
“These awards reflect our unwavering mission to promote economic empowerment and social advancement through inclusive finance and institutional excellence. From MSMEs and women-led enterprises to agricultural communities and our own staff, we are deeply committed to building prosperity at every level,” Akande said.
With over 30 years of presence in Nigeria’s financial landscape, LAPO Microfinance Bank continues to play a central role in driving inclusive development and grassroots economic transformation.
