Burna Boy has gone ahead of Tyla in monthly listening record, according to Spotify.
Nigerian music superstar Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has set a new record for the highest number of monthly listeners by an African artist in Spotify history.
The Grammy-winning singer recently reached 46.84 million monthly listeners on the streaming platform, surpassing the previous African record of 46.58 million held by South African star Tyla.
Burna Boy has since extended the milestone, with his monthly listeners climbing to 47.3 million, putting him on course to become the first African artist to reach the 50 million monthly listeners mark on Spotify.
The surge in streaming numbers has been driven largely by his collaboration with Colombian pop icon Shakira on the World Cup anthem, “Dai Dai.”
The song recently climbed to No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart, making Burna Boy the first African artist to top the global chart since Wizkid achieved the feat in 2016 with “One Dance,” his collaboration with Canadian rapper Drake.
The latest milestone further cements Burna Boy’s position as one of Africa’s biggest global music exports and highlights his growing influence on the international music scene.
