Uber has introduced a new hotel booking feature within its app as part of its strategy to evolve into a comprehensive “everything app.” The service, developed in partnership with Expedia, allows users to search and reserve hotel rooms from a selection of more than 700,000 properties. The feature integrates travel tools such as maps, filters, and pricing options, while enabling payments through saved card details already stored in the Uber platform. According to Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the company is expanding beyond ride-hailing and food delivery to become a unified platform for a wide range of everyday services. Expedia CEO Ariane Gorin said the collaboration is aimed at simplifying travel planning and reducing the steps required to complete bookings. Uber also plans to extend the partnership to include short-term rental listings through Vrbo in the future. The move reflects a broader global trend toward multifunctional apps that combine services like transport, shopping, and payments in a single ecosystem, similar to platforms such as WeChat and Alipay in China. Other tech companies are also pursuing similar “super app” models, including Airbnb, which has added experiences and personal services, and X, which is exploring financial services integration. Uber further revealed plans to incorporate AI-powered tools, including meal planning, shopping list creation, delivery coordination, and a voice assistant for navigating the app.

First Lady Oluremi Reassures Of FG Deep Rooted Concern For  Quality Healthcare For Nigerians

The First Lady of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu has reiterated governments devotion to rebuilding the healthcare sector in Nigeria.

In a statement signed on Wednesday 4th December 2024, by Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

She stated this at the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the National Hospital Abuja.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu pointed out that the hospital remains pivotal and critical to the development of the sector.

“Every Nigerian deserves quality health care, regardless of their background or circumstances. The Federal Government, under the able leadership of President Tinubu, GCFR is committed to rebuilding the healthcare system in Nigeria.

Therefore, the NHA plays a vital role in ensuring that all Nigerians have access to quality and affordable healthcare”.

“As we look to the future, I urge the members of staff and management of this great hospital to remain resilient and strive for excellence so that you can continue to positively impact the lives of many that seek qualitative medical care.”

The First Lady said that it is important to invest in the health of Nigerians and called on stakeholders to reflect on, and deliver positively to the course.

“The establishment of this facility would not have been possible without the foresight of the former First Lady, Hajia Maryam Abacha, whose vision under her National Programme, the Family Support Programme (FSP) birthed the idea that led to the establishment of a national hospital for Women and Children. The mandate of the Hospital was later changed in 1999 to serve as an apex referral Hospital in Nigeria, to cater for all and was renamed the National Hospital, Abuja”.

“In the spirit of the anniversary, therefore, the Radiotherapy Centre will be named Mariam Abacha Radiotherapy Centre”.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu commended the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Alli Pate and the Chief Medical Director, NHA, Prof. Muhammad Raji and all the staff of the hospital for their commitment to improving the health and well-being of citizenship.

Earlier in his remarks, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Prof. Alli Pate emphasized that the health sector is undergoing major overhauling that will make it emerge in days to come out stronger and better.

The Medical Director of the National Hospital pointed out that the hospital is now on the threshold of becoming the referral hub for Africa.

The First Lady also commissioned the radiotherapy centre and also plated trees to mark her visit to the medical facility.
