Motorists across parts of Lagos have been advised to expect partial road closures and traffic diversions today as the state government rolls out a series of infrastructure inaugurations. The affected areas include Ikeja, Ojota, and Victoria Island, all of which are key commercial and residential hubs known for heavy daily traffic.
Authorities say the temporary restrictions are necessary to ensure smooth coordination and public safety during the commissioning of major projects, including the newly completed Opebi-Mende Link Bridge. The bridge is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion by providing a direct connection between Opebi in Ikeja and Mende in Maryland, reducing travel time for thousands of commuters.
Traffic management officials have indicated that diversions will be put in place, with personnel deployed to guide motorists and minimise disruptions. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys ahead of time, consider alternative routes, and allow for additional travel time, especially during peak hours.
The state government noted that the infrastructure projects being inaugurated are part of broader efforts to modernise Lagos’ road network, improve connectivity, and enhance economic productivity. Once fully operational, these developments are expected to ease long-standing traffic bottlenecks and support smoother movement across key parts of the city.
Residents and road users have been urged to cooperate with traffic authorities and adhere strictly to signage and instructions throughout the duration of the closures.
