10 rare things successful people do – that normal people don’t

10 rare things successful people do – that normal people don’t

We’ve all heard stories of wildly successful individuals who seem to have that special something that sets them apart.

It’s easy to dismiss their achievements as luck or circumstance, but there’s often more at play beneath the surface.

I love spending time analyzing and researching the habits of these high-achievers, and there are distinct actions they consistently take, which most of us tend to overlook.

Here are ten of those rare things successful people do.

    1) Embracing failure as a lesson
While many of us dread the idea of failing at something, successful people view failure in a different light.

    Here’s the thing:

They understand that to master something, they need to practice and fail many times before they do.
Ultimately, failures are full of lessons that can help them grow.

I’ve seen this time and again: instead of wallowing in their mistakes, they analyze what went wrong, adjust their approach, and bounce back even stronger.

For example, if you have played a musical instrument or a sport, you’ll understand that to play a beautiful melody or to score many points you need to train, and miss many times before you get you can master it.

Successful people understand that setbacks are a natural part of life. For them, failure isn’t the opposite of success; but more the lessons that make them successful.

    2) Prioritizing personal growth
For many, learning ends once formal education is over.

However, the most successful individuals commit to a lifetime of learning.

    They’re always seeking new:

    √ Knowledge
    √ Skills
    √ Experiences

That will help them evolve both personally and professionally.

I remember speaking with a successful entrepreneur who told me that the day he stops learning is the day he’ll consider himself unsuccessful.

It comes to show that this hunger for continuous growth is what keeps them ahead in the game.

In short, successful people invest in themselves, understanding that personal growth is the foundation of all other forms of success.

    3) Valuing time over money
It’s a common misconception that successful people are obsessed with money.

While they might be financially well-off, they often prioritize their time over their bank balance. They recognize that time, once gone, can never be regained.

I’ve noticed that these individuals are often meticulous time managers, ensuring they spend their days on activities that align with their goals and values.

They aren’t afraid to delegate tasks or say no to distractions. Because in their eyes, every moment wasted is a missed opportunity.

However, it’s important to note that while they’re not obsessed with it, they look after it, they know that money is important just because: It buys time.

    4) Building genuine relationships
In a world driven by networking and making the “right” connections, successful people prioritize authentic relationships.

In other words, they understand the value of surrounding themselves with positive, supportive, and ambitious people.

I’ve always believed that you’re influenced by the people you spend the most time with. The most accomplished folks live by this principle.

It’s got to rub off right?

They nurture relationships that challenge and inspire them, recognizing that genuine connections are more valuable than a vast, shallow network.

    5) Practicing mindfulness and reflection
While it may seem like a recent trend, many successful individuals have been practicing mindfulness and reflection for years.

They understand the importance of staying grounded and taking a moment to introspect.

Think about Marcus Aurelius’ manuscript “Meditations”. He was a successful Roman emperor whose diary was found thousands of years later and it’s become one of the most popular in the world.

While he was a man with a lot of power, he had a lot of detractors, so his Stoic philosophy and diary of meditations helped him enjoy his success in a healthier way.
During my interactions with a few high-achievers, I’ve learned that they often start or end their day with a moment of quiet reflection.

This practice helps them stay centered and ensures they’re always aligned with their true purpose.

But that’s not all, they recognize that success isn’t just about external achievements, but also about inner peace and clarity.

    6) Prioritizing health and well-being

It’s not uncommon to hear stories of people sacrificing their health in the relentless pursuit of success. Yet, truly successful individuals realize that health is their greatest asset.

Without it, all the wealth and recognition in the world mean nothing.

People like this often have a dedicated fitness routine, mindful eating habits, and take breaks when needed. And no, they’re not the ones to show it on social media.
Their commitment to their health is genuine and not to show off.

In essence, they understand that to be their best selves in their professional lives, they must first take care of their physical and mental well-being.

    7) Embracing change and adaptability
In an ever-evolving world, resisting change can be a downfall.

The most successful people aren’t just prepared for change; they actively seek it out, knowing that adaptability is a key ingredient in the recipe for success.

They know that whoever doesn’t keep up will be left behind.

But, how do they do it? How do they adapt?

These individuals are always on the lookout for new trends, technologies, or ideas that can give them an edge.
They’re not set in their ways, and they view change not as a threat but as an exciting opportunity for growth and innovation.

    8) Setting boundaries
Here’s something successful people understand: The importance of work-life balance and knowing when to disconnect.

While it might seem that high-achievers are always “on,” many of them have mastered the art of setting boundaries.

They value their “me time” and set specific hours when they’re unreachable, ensuring they have moments of solitude and relaxation.

By setting these boundaries, they can recharge and return to their tasks with greater focus and energy.

    9) Being curious and asking questions
One trait I’ve consistently noticed among the successful is their innate sense of curiosity.
Something I love about these individuals is they never assume they have all the answers.

Instead, they’re always asking questions, eager to delve deeper and gain a broader perspective.

This never-ending thirst for knowledge ensures that they’re always learning, growing, and staying ahead of the curve.

They’re not embarrassed to ask questions because they understand that every inquiry is a step to a greater understanding.

    10) Practicing gratitude
Success isn’t just about ambition and hard work.
Many high-achievers also emphasize the importance of gratitude in their journey so they take time regularly to reflect on their blessings and express thanks for what they have.

This sense of gratitude keeps them grounded.

It ensures that, in the pursuit of more, they don’t lose sight of the achievements and joys they already possess.

As a result, this balanced perspective fuels their journey, making it more fulfilling and meaningful.

Success has many sides, and the journey to it involves various actions, decisions, and habits.

The steps mentioned above, while seemingly simple, can profoundly impact one’s journey.
As we strive towards our goals, it might be worth incorporating some of these habits into our daily routines.

After all, it’s often the simple changes that lead to the most significant transformations.

    Understanding the subjectivity of success
Success. A term we hear often, yet its definition varies wildly from person to person.

For some, it might mean reaching the pinnacle of their career, amassing wealth, or achieving fame.

Meanwhile, for others, it’s about living a life of purpose, filled with love, contentment, and meaningful relationships.

And there are those for whom success is about making a difference, impacting lives, or leaving a lasting legacy.
From conversations I’ve had and stories I’ve heard, it’s evident that success isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept.

On the contrary, it’s deeply personal and often intertwined with an individual’s values, experiences, and aspirations.

So, why talk about the habits of successful people if success itself is so varied?

Well, regardless of our personal definition, the journey to success requires:

    √ A certain mindset
    √ Discipline
    √ Consistency

And this is where these habits come into play.

The truth is adopting the habits mentioned above doesn’t mean you’re trying to emulate someone else’s success.
Instead, you’re equipping yourself with tools and practices that enhance productivity, foster growth, and nurture well-being.

They’re foundational habits that, when applied, can pave the way to achieving whatever success means to you.

It’s essential to remember that our goals and dreams are valid, irrespective of how grand or modest they might seem to others.

What’s crucial is the journey and the personal growth we experience along the way.

By integrating these habits into our daily lives, we’re not only gearing up to reach our desired destination but also ensuring that the journey itself is enriching and fulfilling.
