Houston-based entrepreneur and diaspora leader, Olanrewaju Agunbiade, popularly known as Lasese Jnr and fondly called Mr President, has emerged as one of the major winners at the 2026 Coolwealth Awards, securing two titles at the event held on January 11, 2026.
Agunbiade received the Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year award and the Humanitarian Icon of the Year (Diaspora) award, placing him among prominent personalities recognised for excellence and impact across Africa and in the diaspora.
The event brought together notable figures from the cultural and entertainment sectors, including King Sunny Ade, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo, Prince Jide Kosoko, Obesere, Alibaba, representatives of Nike Art Gallery, Oritse Femi, Kenny Blaq and Akpororo, among others.
Born in Ado-Ekiti into the Akogun family, Agunbiade draws inspiration from his late father, Evangelist Lasese Agunbiade, JP. He studied at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and later undertook further studies in agriculture and animal sciences in India.
Agunbiade operates a diversified business portfolio spanning Nigeria and the United States. Through Godoyd Enterprise, he provides photography and videography services, while Akog Appliances offers appliance repair services. He is also involved in the oil and gas sector through Shicieles and in real estate development through Aventis NextEdge Real Estate, which facilitates diaspora investments in property projects in Nigeria.
In addition to his business ventures, Agunbiade is involved in humanitarian and development initiatives. He advocates for sustainable energy solutions, including power plant projects and solar energy initiatives aimed at addressing electricity challenges in Africa. He is also known for facilitating business and cultural linkages between international investors and Nigeria, as well as mentoring young entrepreneurs.
Organisers of the Coolwealth Awards describe the platform as one dedicated to recognising excellence, influence and impact across Africa and the diaspora. Agunbiade’s double recognition at the 2026 edition highlights the increasing role of diaspora entrepreneurs in business development and social impact initiatives linked to the continent.
