The Weight of the Wait- 2
Sometime ago, I got a call to pick up someone at a popular place in Benin City. When I got there, I called the man to notify him of my arrival. He was right there and I was happy. As I waited for him to step into the car, I noticed he had this worried look on his face, as he kept staring blankly into space.
Guess what? He was waiting for a friend who had told him that she was at the place. Now, the man was initially not at that place but had come over because the friend had said she was. So, he only requested I meet him there because the lady had told him that she was there. Well, we ended up waiting for about twenty minutes before she finally came and we were livid!
No one loves to wait, no matter how much we cherish what is to come, waiting is not always an easy task. This is why patience is a trait that should be cultivated.
Lately, while interacting with some of my youths as a youth pastor, I discovered shockingly that they thought Joseph was able to endure the difficulties in his life because of what the future held for him. This is the main reason behind this series.
Joseph, like the rest of us, had no inkling of the paths his life would take. He only had faith in the God who had revealed to him via dreams, a shadow of what was to come. He had no idea the greatness was going to be the position of a Prime Minister.
When he was abandoned in the pit, he was scared like every young boy would be. When he was sold into slavery, he saw his hopes dashed, like one who has just lost the parents. When he was tempted in Potiphar’s house, he was pressured like every young boy his age, especially with the influence of hormonal changes which is usually at the peak at that age.
When he was thrown into prison, he was devastated like a young man who has just lost his dream job, or a Nigerian who has been deported from his dream country on false charges.
In all of this, he did not become impatient with his God, neither did he turn aside to do what others were doing. He did not compromise his faith! He kept believing, and took every day at a time, hoping against hope.
It is not enough to call yourself Joseph because you want to be great like him, you must understand the uncommon patience he exhibited.
