ALGON will render quality governance till rural settlements.

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria has restated its commitment to boosting governance at the local level, with a focus on improving service delivery, livelihoods, and the overall well-being of Nigerians.

On Sunday while marking the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebration, ALGON’s National President, Mr. Bello Lawal, emphasised the association’s dedication to addressing the needs of local communities.

Saying, “As ALGON celebrates the blessings of Eid-el-Fitr, we pray that Allah (SWT) brings comfort, relief, and prosperity to millions of homes and families of our Muslim brothers and sisters. May this joyous occasion mark the beginning of a new chapter of peace, happiness, and abundance in their lives.”

Lawal assured the public that ALGON would continue its advocacy for good governance and sustainable development in local government areas, working closely with other tiers of government, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as development partners.

“We will work assiduously to promote rural governance and ensure that our service delivery improves the livelihoods of our people. We stand in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters, acknowledging that their struggles are our collective responsibility,” he said.

The ALGON President also underscored the association’s ongoing efforts to foster leadership development and adopt innovative strategies to support the rural economy.

“We will continue to advocate for the needs of our local communities, ensuring that their voices are heard and their challenges addressed,” he added.

He also acknowledged the economic hardships facing many Nigerians, particularly those in rural areas.

Lawsl noted that while the Eid celebrations marked spiritual renewal, the struggles of the people must not be overlooked.

“The economic challenges faced by many of our citizens, including our Muslim brothers and sisters, are a harsh reality we must confront together,” he said. “These struggles, including poverty, unemployment, and insecurity, are particularly evident in our Local Governments and Area Councils, where poor farmers and jobless Nigerians face existential challenges.”

He reaffirmed that ALGON would continue to work tirelessly toward improving governance at the grassroots level, despite the various challenges that the country faces.

On behalf of the National Executive Council, Board of Trustees, and staff, Lawal extended his warmest greetings to Muslims across the country, wishing them a blessed Eid-el-Fitr.

“Once again, Eid Mubarak! May Allah’s blessings be upon you now and forever,” he stated.
