In a significant move aimed at deepening community engagement during the Easter period, the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has approved a full week of Easter holiday for all civil servants in the state.
The special holiday period will run from March 31 to April 8 and is intended to allow workers extended time for spiritual reflection, family bonding, and participation in community-based Easter activities across the state.
According to the announcement, the decision reflects the administration’s emphasis on work-life balance, cultural values, and the importance of religious observances in fostering unity and social cohesion among citizens. The extended break is also expected to encourage increased participation in local events, religious gatherings, and traditional Easter celebrations across urban and rural communities.
State officials explained that essential services will continue to operate during the period, with appropriate arrangements made to ensure that critical sectors such as healthcare, security, and emergency response remain functional. Civil servants in these categories are expected to operate on rotational or duty-based schedules where necessary.
The government further noted that the “mega Easter holiday” initiative aligns with its broader agenda of promoting family values and strengthening community ties, especially during significant religious seasons. It also positions the state as one of the few in the country to formally adopt an extended Easter break for public sector workers.
