EU stimulates North with investment of €300 million on digital, renewable energy
The European Union is strengthening partnership with regional government in Northern part of Nigeria with commitment to invest €300 million to stimulate economic development and human development.
The EU economic agenda and area of priority include digital economy, renewable energy, agriculture, environmental and climate change, as well as strengthening job opportunities for younger generation in the region.
Head of EU delegation, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, disclosed the proposed intervention when he led some members of the delegations on courtesy visit to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday in Kano.
Ambassador Mignot said Kano is designed to benefit significant chunk of the the developmental plan being anchored under the EU Globalgate way corporation that would be unfolded soon.
Besides, the economic and trade agenda, the head of the delegation stressed that state governments in the region can also leverage on the gateway initiative to access credit and loan facilities to accelerate growth.

Although, Mignot reminded that EU is strengthening bi-lateral relationship with Federal Government, he emphasised critical need to extend partnership with sub-federation for inclusive economic development.
”Our bi-lateral agenda focuses on green and digital economy, enhancing partnership especially in Northwest and Northeast due to their population. EU has seen potential development in Kano especially in trade and human development.
“The EU through its special project Globalgate way is strengthening human development and enabling financial instruments to state government, more importantly to accelerate investment and create job opportunities to younger generation.
”We are in Kano this time to see EU projects, especially the solar panel installed in the last five years, renewable energy and digital projects.
We also have the intention to identify future projects, establish EU companies in Nigeria.
We are also willing to know the vision and needs of the state government to foster areas of partnership,” Mignot said.
Responding, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf applauded European Union’s intervention especially in the areas of renewable energy, education and digital economy.
Governor Yusuf pledged readiness to create enable environment to ease investment opportunities and infrastructure to strengthen the intervention.
