The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has announced plans to temporarily shut down the Lagos airport to allow for essential maintenance works, with the timeline for the full closure yet to be finalised.
FAAN disclosed that the planned shutdown is aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs at the airport in order to ensure safety, operational efficiency and compliance with international aviation standards.
According to the authority, consultations are ongoing with relevant stakeholders, including airlines and regulatory agencies, to determine the most suitable period for the closure in order to minimise disruption to passengers and flight operations.
A FAAN official said the maintenance exercise is necessary to preserve the integrity of airport facilities and improve the overall travel experience. “The planned maintenance is critical to sustaining safe and efficient operations at the Lagos airport, and we are working to finalise a date that will cause the least inconvenience to the public,” the official said.
FAAN assured passengers that adequate notice would be given ahead of the closure and that alternative arrangements would be communicated once the schedule is confirmed.
The authority also appealed for the understanding of airport users, stressing that the temporary shutdown is in the interest of long-term safety and service delivery.
